RESNIKOV PREKOP. The oldest pile-dwelling settlement in the Ljubljansko barje

Anton VELUŠČEK

Resnikov prekop - sample trenching, archaeological finds, cultural and chronological classification

Abstract

The article provides an explanation of the results from sample trenching carried out at the site Resnikov prekop in the Ljubljansko barje in 2002. The author presents the prehistoric remains from the settlement and chance Roman finds.

On the basis of radiocarbon dating the remains from prehistoric settlement were attributed to the 46th century B.C. With regard to the pottery finds, the settlement is attributed to the Sava Group. The closest parallels are the Seče Culture in Croatia and the Late Lengyel cultural complex. Settlement of the area correlates with the arrival of the first copper prospectors.

The chance Roman finds are linked to the nearby road that crossed the Ljubljansko barje and passed by what was at the time the Resnikov prekop settlement.
