RESNIKOV PREKOP. The oldest pile-dwelling settlement in the Ljubljansko barje

Janez TURK

Determining the palaeoecological changes in the Ljubljansko barje during the holocene.
Case study: sediments from Resnikov prekop

Abstract

Sedimentological analysis of Holocene sediments from Resnikov prekop indicated a change in the palaeoecological conditions in the area of today’s Ljubljansko barje. It showed two origins of the sediments. The lower layer of the sediments is of lake origin, while the top layer constitutes of river deposits. Based on these sediments we could also infer the strength of the river currents. The sediments immediately above the lake marl were deposited by stronger river currents than the higher layer of sediments directly below the surface.
