Abstract

In the region of the pile-dwelling settlement at Resnikov prekop in the Ljubljansko barje (5th millennium B.C.) a total of 31 bird bones were excavated and anatomically and systematically categorized. At least 16 different birds were recognized, attributed to 12 species: Tachybaptus ruficollis, Cygnus sp., Anas platyrhynchos, A. acuta, A. querquedula, A. clypeata, A. sp., Mergus merganser, Rallus aquaticus, Gallinula chloropus, Fulica atra, Erithacus rubecula and Sturnus vulgaris. The majority of bird bones lay in sediment, which was mixed with later alluviums and consequently possibly »contaminated« with materials of some unknown chronological origin.
