- 1974-1978: Undergraduate study of Archaeology and History at the University of Ljubljana
- 1980: Masters degree in archaeology at the University of Ljubljana
- 1985: Doctoral degree in history at the University of Ljubljana
- 1989-1990: Guest lecturer at the University of Ljubljana, Department of Archaeology
- 1990-1991: Post-doctoral studies as the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung recipient at the Institut for pre- and early history and roman provincial archaeology at the University of München
- 1995: habilitation, University of Maribor (subject: Medieval history)
- 2002: habilitation, University of Ljubljana (subject: archaeology of Early Medieval)
- 2002 - onwards: junior lecturer (docent) at the University of Ljubljana, Department of archaeology
- 2002: guest professor at the University of Wiena, Institute for pre- and early history
- 2003: Doctoral degree in archaeology, University of Ljubljana
- 2007: habilitation, University of Ljubljana (subject: archaeology)

- Employment: ZRC SAZU, Institute for archaeology since 1978, presently as scientific councillor.

- 2004- onward - Member of archaeological committee at the International board of Slavistics.
